Muscatine Murder-Suicide Leaves Six Family Members Dead Across Multiple Locations

Authorities have identified 52-year-old Ryan Willis McFarland as the gunman in a devastating murder-suicide that left six people dead across multiple locations in Muscatine on June 1, 2026.

According to the Muscatine Police Department, officers responding to a shooting at a home on Park Avenue discovered four victims dead from gunshot wounds. Investigators later located two additional victims at separate locations on Mill Street and Grandview Avenue, both suffering fatal gunshot injuries.

Police identified Ryan McFarland as the suspect and later found him on the Riverfront Trail near the pedestrian bridge with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the shootings stemmed from a domestic dispute, and all of the victims are believed to be family members of McFarland. One of the victims has been identified as Lesa McFarland, his wife.

The tragedy also impacted the Muscatine Community School District, which confirmed that two employees and two students were among those killed.

The Muscatine Police Department, assisted by multiple state and local agencies, continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shootings. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact the Muscatine Police Department Major Crimes Unit.
